Carpenter to Stockholm Repairyard – not your average carpentry role

This is not a traditional carpentry position – at our shipyard, no two days are the same.
Do you want to work close to the vessels, in a unique industrial environment right in central Stockholm?

Stockholm Repairyard AB is the largest repair yard in Stockholm and offers service, maintenance and conversions for both commercial and private vessels. We have a long history, world-class technical expertise and a strong focus on continued development.

About the role
We are now looking for a carpenter who is motivated by variety, enjoys working with different materials and tasks, and appreciates that the work changes from day to day rather than being a narrow specialist role, to our dock and logistics department.

You will work with a wide range of carpentry assignments, both on board vessels and in the shipyard’s own carpentry workshop – which you will also be responsible for. The tasks include, among other things:
• renovation, adaptation and maintenance of vessel interiors
• assembly, disassembly and various installation tasks
• manufacturing and working with wood and other materials used in marine environments
• work both in the workshop and on board, depending on vessel and project

In addition to carpentry, you support the department during dockings, scaffold construction and transports within the shipyard area.

You will work both independently and as part of a team, with daily contact with other professions such as welders, electricians and technicians. The work is guided by work orders/foreman, but also requires creative problem-solving and the ability to “fix the situation” on site.

We are looking for someone who has
• At least 3–5 years of experience as a carpenter – preferably from shipyards, building maintenance or industrial environments
• Broad carpentry skills – both rough and fine carpentry
• Experience working with different materials
• A high level of independence and strong safety mindset – perhaps you have run your own business?
• Good collaboration skills – we are a team, not a one-man show
• Category B driving licence (manual)
• Good knowledge of Swedish and English, spoken and written

Meritorious
• Experience from vessels, shipyards or other marine environments
• Experience of working independently in projects
• Knowledge of Polish, spoken

We offer
• Permanent full-time employment, based at Beckholmen
• Collective agreement, wellness allowance and other benefits
• A safe, exciting and unusual work environment – surrounded by vessels, water and heavy industry
• Opportunity to grow in a company with breadth, history and strong belief in the future

Other information
The position is security classified. You must be a Swedish citizen.
Security vetting and an extract from the criminal records register are required in connection with the interview.

Niklas Görjevik

Projektledare

– After several years at sea with the same shipping company, I felt it was time for a new challenge. I considered switching companies and trading routes, but at the same time, I was contacted by Felix Werbowsky, our sales manager, who encouraged me to apply for a position at the shipyard.

Felix, whom I got to know during my studies in Norway, had suggested this for a long time. This time, however, the offer was for a more senior role with a competitive salary that was approaching what I earned at sea. Stepping ashore was not an obvious decision for me, but when the opportunity arose, I realized it was time to try something new. The shipyard was appealing, not least because it allowed me to work close to home while maintaining a strong connection to the maritime industry.

What does your job involve?

I work as a project manager at the shipyard, where I serve as the central hub for the projects I oversee. Once a project is handed over from the sales department, I take charge, ensuring it stays on schedule, within budget, and that invoicing is handled properly. I am responsible for the entire process, from project initiation to final delivery to the customer.

A large part of my work revolves around collaboration—coordinating different stakeholders and ensuring that everyone is working toward the same goal. Customer relations are key, as is the teamwork with various shipyard departments and our numerous subcontractors.

What is the best part of working at SRVAB?

The best part of working at the shipyard is the variety of projects and the ever-changing challenges. As a former sea captain, surrounded by experienced marine engineers, I am constantly learning new things, particularly in the technical field. We complement each other well, and there is always a close-knit collaboration—the door is always open.

But without a doubt, the best thing about SRVAB is my fantastic colleagues. We have fun together, laugh every day, and truly enjoy each other’s company.

Join Our Expanding Team!

Stockholm Repair Yard is in an expansive phase, and we are currently looking for more project managers to join our team.

Magnus Libassi

Arbetsledare el

“We are a great team working on different tasks, but we share the same goal—to get the job done well and on time. I find the job incredibly stimulating and exciting, and it’s rewarding to be part of both today’s and tomorrow’s journey toward the electrification of vessels. During my time at the shipyard, I’ve completed several training programs and truly feel that I have grown and developed here. The fact that the shipyard is located on Beckholmen, right in the heart of Stockholm, with a stunning view of the city, is just the icing on the cake!” says Magnus enthusiastically.

How did you become a team leader at Stockholm Repair Yard?

From an early age, I had a strong interest in cars and considered studying automotive technology in high school. But after careful consideration and discussions with my father, I decided instead to pursue electrical engineering—a decision I have never regretted!

In 2016, I got a job at an electrical firm that was contracted to work at the shipyard. I was fascinated by the shipyard environment, with different vessels docking in for service, repairs, and refits. In 2018, I was offered a direct position at the shipyard’s electrical department as an electrician, and I quickly advanced—first to foreman and later to team leader.

What does a typical workweek look like for you?

I usually start my workday early to have quiet time for planning. Which vessels need servicing? What tasks need to be done? Who will handle each job?

One of the things I love about my job is that no two days are alike. New vessels bring new challenges, making my work varied, fun, and exciting.

At the shipyard, we work in different teams, and right now, our electrical team consists of three electricians. When multiple vessels require extensive electrical work, we bring in additional personnel from subcontractors. Sometimes, vessels can’t come to the shipyard, so instead, our electricians travel to the vessel and carry out the work on-site.

We’re Hiring: Electricians Wanted!

Stockholm Repair Yard is in an expansive phase, and we are currently looking for more electricians to join our team.
